Day 5 - Sat 14 Jun 14, Zurich

Forecast: 9-23 deg C
Listed distance: 0km; Actual distance: 40km; Cumulative distance: 68km

As Maccas only opens at 8am on Sat & Sun, we set off just before 7:30am hoping to catch a wrap in the city. However, we found a Starbucks instead which opened at 7:30am and we had a bacon and egg muffin and a coffee each. It was a little more expensive than Maccas at CHF 24 (A$28 - lovely place Switzerland, but be prepared to dig deep into your pocket if visiting.). It did fill the gap though and we headed off down the Western side of the lake to check that out as a possible alternate route to Quarten. Whilst the bike path was on the road, being a Saturday, there was not as much traffic and Wendy felt a bit more confident about riding on the road, on the wrong side! We rode for about 20km and came to a town of Horgen where there was a brass band playing for a breakfast hosted by the local bank. The organisers were insistent that we join them and as it was about 9:30am we thankfully accepted our free pass and stood in the line to get our second breakfast for the day
.  Greg asked about opening a bank account with them and the manager said "no problem, we have clients in Sydney, but your money must be declared"!!  Whilst in Horgen we did a little exploring then headed back to Zurich.

Just before entering the city, we stopped to walk around the local trash and treasure markets; it really doesn't matter where you are in the world, these markets are all the same! Except for the little dog in his own trolley!  Luckily we couldn't buy anything as weight management when travelling on a bike is more important than stuff.

We arrived back at the hotel about 11:30am and did some more “housekeeping”, and then Greg went for a walk while Wendy tried to have a nana nap.  Final adjustments were made to the bikes, and some preliminary sorting and packing was done.  We both had a bit of quiet time – reading, notes and blogging and then had dinner at the Kebab shop around the corner. CHF29 for 2 kebabs with chips and beers!! Anyway, like we said, nice place, but very expensive.  The kebabs and beers were very nice though.

One very cute, spoilt doggie
