Day 35 – Mon 14 Jul 14, Ghent to Asse (Belgium)
Forecast: 11-22 deg C, mostly cloudy; Listed distance:
47km; Actual distance: 50km; Cumulative distance: 1418km; Av speed: 15.9 km/h; Max
speed: 33.2 km/h; Ghent: 16 deg C; Asse: 23 deg C; Start time: 9:30am; Stop
time: 1:30pm; Ride time: 3h02m
As Maccas did not open until 9am, we had a bit of a sleep in and an unhurried pack. As usual Greg was chomping at the bit and wanted to leave early and find somewhere else to have breakfast. This was despite the fact we only had 47km to ride. Anyway, Wendy just ignored that and continued playing on the phone.
We arrived at Maccas 5 mins before opening so had to wait, and then had a chicken/bacon wrap with coffee each and that gave us the legs to get to Aalst where we had lunch.
It was such a nice day with a bit of a tailwind that we were both quite sad when the ride was over.
As we were having lunch, we texted Guido to tell him when we would be leaving and he rode from home to meet us. We were a bit geographically challenged so didn't quite meet him where we planned to, but eventually found each other. We rode into Asse and their place where Magda was waiting.
We then had a chat over a beer and tea. So, for dinner, we walked into Asse and chose a new Greek restaurant. Unfortunately, Magda was unable to join us as she already had tickets to a concert in Bruges. We had a good meal - a mixed grill for 3 (not sure how “Greek” that was, but it was nice), a bottle of wine and beers for Greg. The wine was surprisingly nice.
